Premium residential solar installations engineered for real-world Illinois roofs — honest consultations, fast permits, and electric bills measured in dollars instead of hundreds.
Illinois Solar Express, LLC is a residential solar design and installation firm headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, just outside Chicago. We've spent years quietly installing high-quality solar systems for families across the state, one neighbor at a time. We don't pitch. We don't knock on doors. We earn our work through results.
Every system we install is custom-engineered for the specific roof, shade pattern, and electricity usage of the home it sits on — not a one-size-fits-all template pulled from a sales playbook. When we promise an offset, we hit it. When we promise a timeline, we keep it.
We believe solar should feel simple. Walk in confused, walk out with a plan you understand — and a system that quietly pays for itself for the next 25 years.
Full turnkey solar systems for single-family homes. Roof-mounted or ground-mounted, sized exactly to your real annual usage so you don't overpay for capacity you'll never use.
Add a home battery to ride out outages and squeeze more value out of every kWh you generate. We size storage to your daily usage pattern — not to whatever the vendor wants to sell.
Got an aging roof? Bundle a new architectural shingle roof with your solar install and avoid paying to uninstall & reinstall panels in 5 years. Often the smartest financial play for older Illinois homes.
Once your system is online we don't ghost you. Cloud monitoring catches issues before you notice them on your bill, and we send a crew if anything ever needs attention — not a chatbot.
We're not a national franchise. We're an Illinois-based team of consultants, designers, electricians and installers who live in the same communities we work in. When you call, you talk to a real person who knows your project by name. When the install crew shows up, they're the same people you've been talking to for weeks.
Lead consultant. Walks every customer through usage, shade, and savings projections. The voice you'll keep referring your friends to.
Designs every system from scratch using satellite shade modeling and your real 12-month usage history. Obsessive about correct sizing.
Runs the install crew. NABCEP-trained, licensed electrician. Has personally been on the roof for the vast majority of our installs.
Handles permits, utility paperwork, inspections and incentives. Quietly the reason we hit 30-day installs while competitors take six months.
If solar doesn't pencil out for your roof or your usage, we tell you. We'd rather lose a sale than install a system that frustrates a homeowner for 25 years.
Most projects go from signed paperwork to powered-on system in under 30 days — without skipping a single inspection, permit, or QA step.
We live here. Your installer's kids go to the same schools as yours. That's a different kind of accountability than a national company offers.
Solar is a 25-year asset. We design for the long haul, not the loudest first-year number. That's why our referral rate is so high.
Every solar install is a custom system, so we never quote without seeing your roof and your usage. But here's a transparent picture of where most Illinois homeowners land — before federal tax credits and Illinois Shines SREC incentives, which typically reduce these numbers by 30 to 50%.
Right-sized solar for smaller homes, townhouses, or roofs with limited usable area. Reliable production, real savings, no extras.
Our most-installed tier. Sized for the average Illinois single-family home with normal usage and a desire to zero out the electric bill year-round.
Larger homes, EV chargers, or backup power requirements. Includes battery storage for grid independence and outage protection.
"I'm so happy and keep referring her. My solar panels' production exceeds expectations and my ComEd bill is reduced to only $14. Samantha is really good and helped us understand how this all works out — we are thankful!"
"Overall it was excellent! Professional installation in less than 30 days from the date paperwork was done. Samantha helped with the trees around my house to get a higher solar offset. Thanks again!"
"Excellent service and highly recommended. They guarantee installation within two months and that's a plus! Great opportunity for homeowners with incentives available. Go for it! Thank you Illinois Solar Express!"
"Thank you Illinois Solar Express for all the great work you did at our brand-new home. Your company was referred by my best friend. The sales rep was very informative, the inspection was done quickly, and in less than a month we had our system installed. Go Solar!"
"I highly recommend Illinois Solar Express for residential solar installations. They carefully listen to their customers and diligently work to meet their needs. They communicate well and are exceptionally enjoyable to work with."
Solar is a big decision. Here are the questions Illinois homeowners ask us most often during the first consultation. Don't see yours? Send it in through the form below.
From signed paperwork to switched-on system, the vast majority of our installs land in under 30 days. The roof work itself usually takes 1–3 days. The remaining time is permits, utility approvals, and inspection scheduling — which we handle on your behalf.
Most of our properly-sized residential systems offset 85–100% of annual electricity usage. Real customers regularly see ComEd bills in the $14–$25 range — that's just the fixed connection fee. We never promise zero, because Illinois weather has its own opinion, but we get most homes very close.
The biggest are the federal Investment Tax Credit (currently 30% of system cost as a tax credit) and the Illinois Shines SREC program, which pays you for the renewable energy your system produces. We handle the SREC paperwork for you. Some utilities also offer rebates and net metering that pays full retail rate for excess energy you send back to the grid.
Snow slides off panels faster than off a regular roof because the panels are smooth, dark, and slightly angled. Production dips in mid-winter, but solar is sized on an annual basis — summer overproduction banks credits via net metering that you draw down in winter. Net effect: bills stay low all year.
The panels we install carry a 25-year manufacturer performance warranty (most still produce 85%+ at year 25). String inverters typically last 12–15 years; microinverters typically carry 25-year warranties to match the panels. We walk you through the trade-offs during design.
If your roof has fewer than 8–10 years of life left, we usually recommend a roof replacement first — or bundle it into the solar install as a single project. Removing and reinstalling panels later costs thousands. We're happy to bundle a new architectural shingle or metal roof into your solar contract.
Solar stays with the home. Studies consistently show owned solar systems increase home resale value — often by more than the system cost. We provide documentation packets at closing to help your buyer's lender and appraiser correctly value the asset.
We're an independent Illinois LLC based in Oakbrook Terrace. Our installers, designers and office staff all live and work in Illinois. We don't subcontract installs out to whichever crew is cheapest that week — the same team you talk to is the team on your roof.
